About me

I first started teaching Estonian as a foreign language in a language school in Tartu in 2015 next to my master’s studies. It became clear right away that I had chosen the right profession – a profession that allows me to share my beloved Estonian language and culture while getting to know other cultures and languages of the world at the same time.

It could only get more and more exciting! I met children and teenagers from the Estonian diaspora at Estonian language and culture summer camps, where I participated as a teacher both in Estonia and abroad. They opened a completely new perspective for me and inspired me to explore the topic of Estonian identity in youth diasporas in my master’s thesis. My goal was to find out how it is possible to learn Estonian and retain a strong Estonian identity while living abroad.

In 2018 I got a chance to teach the first Estonian language course ever held in Rome, Italy. This beginners course took place at Roma Tre University. Between 2019 and 2022 I worked as a lecturer of Estonian language and culture at the University of Latvia in Riga, Latvia.

I have always sought extra challenges and experiences, tutoring private students with different learning needs and objectives. Since 2016 I have also contributed to various projects e.g. with Innove and the University of Tartu, creating study materials and courses for Estonian as a second language learners.

Since 2024, I am a member of the Association of Teachers of Estonian as a Second Language.

I like taking long walks, reading and traveling. My roots are in Kihnu and in the Pärnu area in general. In addition to Italy and Latvia, I have also lived in Austria and Bosnia & Herzegovina. I have a bilingual daughter living in a multicultural home.
